This piece finally made it to its new home over the weekend (sold from my November show). Acrylic, spray paint and marker on canvas with some help from a labrador retriever named Zoe, who left a few still visible paw prints in the underpainting.

Might hop a fence and pitch this to CN executives when I am in Atlanta next weekend. The names of the Smurfs in my version are coming right out of the DSM-IV.

I was commissioned to reinterpret the EMT star of life for a friend in Colorado a few months ago. Yesterday, I added the letters so it can go into production printed on EMT rompers and tunics or whatever it is that EMTs wear out west.

"Modern psychology has a word…”maladjusted.” Certainly, we all want to avoid the maladjusted life. In order to have real adjustment within our personalities, we all want the well-adjusted life in order to avoid neurosis, schizophrenic personalities.

But I say to you, my friends, as I move to my conclusion, there are certain things in our nation and in the world which I am proud to be maladjusted and which I hope all men of good-will will be maladjusted until the good societies realize. I say very honestly that I never intend to become adjusted to segregation and discrimination.

I never intend to become adjusted to religious bigotry.

I never intend to adjust myself to economic conditions that will take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.

I never intend to adjust myself to the madness of militarism, to self-defeating effects of physical violence. But in a day when sputniks and explorers are dashing through outer space and guided ballistic missiles are carving highways of death through the stratosphere, no nation can win a war. It is no longer the choice between violence and nonviolence. It is either nonviolence or nonexistence, and the alternative to disarmament.

In other words, I’m about convinced now that there is need for a new organization in our world. The International Association for the Advancement of Creative Maladjustment–men and women who will be as maladjusted as the prophet Amos. Who in the midst of the injustices of his day could cry out in words that echo across the centuries, “Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.’"

Dreamt I was forced to play chess against a chimpanzee on a train car while Soviet-era guards made sure I didn't look out the windows (there were top-secret bear-slug-monsters in the mountains on either side I wasn't supposed to see). Don't remember exactly, but its likely that I lost.

Food For Animals, Height With Friends, American Folklore, Moss of Aura, Mickey Free this Saturday night at The Hexagon. I don't book a lot of shows, but when I do it's because it's something I really want to see ... and I have wanted to see this show for a long time. Sick-creative bands and all really good people to work with. GO!:

I dreamt that a huge dictionary fell from the sky into my field and I went through each page whiting-out occurrences of the letters 'ism'.
